12 Days of Thrifty Christmas: Coffee Addict

For that caffeinated friend who can’t get enough of their java, you can whip up a pretty good gift with fun items from a thrift store.

Thrift a cool mug or two; for on-the-go coffee drinkers, opt for a thrifted travel mug instead.

Originally from World Market, I found two of these lovely coffee mugs at Salvation Army! I love the different languages.

This Keep Calm and Carry On mug came from TJ Maxx.

Fill mugs with samples of premium coffee.  Flavored spoons are a trendy and tasty addition:  thrift a cool spoon and wash it very well.  Dip it in chocolate (or chocolate + topping, like cinnamon) let it harden, and then wrap in plastic when cool.

This is one of my favorite spoons by Oneida. You can find quality silverware at thrift stores that was donated because part of the set is missing. They are perfect to give as stirring spoons!

Thrift a cool glass bottle and fill with sugar if they like their coffee sweet.  Give samples of specialty creamers, or even try your hand at homemade creamer.  Customize this gift for a hot-tea or hot-cocoa drinker instead.  Other goodies might include:  salted caramel, candy cane, taffy sticks.

I like the idea of wrapping in plain brown paper – the earthy color resembles the color of coffee or tea.  Use the mug itself as a container and simply wrap in colored cellophane.  If your gifts won’t fit in the mug, try a coffee can – it will make all of your gifts smell like coffee!  Use extra whole coffee beans to pack around the items.

  1. Good idea. You could also easily add a gift card from their favorite coffee shop.
