NY Fashion Week: Day 2

As New York began to roll out the carpet for the beginning of Fashion Week, Mother Nature also decided to show off her best winter look in the form of Winter Storm Nemo.  The snow storm may have left travelers in a crunch, but it didn’t halt the festivities on the catwalk.

One of the trends in the first few days was clear through several major designer’s shows: feminine military style. Of course, this isn’t the first time browns and greens have graced the runways, but over the last week, industry insiders have seen a re-invented military look for fall 2013.

Here are three trendy examples from designers Prabal Gurung, Jason Wu, and Altuzarra. The military-style was represented by chic jacket-skirt combos, fur-lined coats, and even military-inspired peplum.

For those of us who can’t afford the brand names, however, here are some current options to look into if you want to capture the feminine military style:

This oversized, studded jacket from Forever 21 rings up at $47.80. It’s perfect when paired with a short, black dress or black and white striped tee with black skinny jeans and a colored scarf.

Editor’s pick: Here’s another outfit idea, put together by clothing from teen clothing store, Vanity.

The fitted gray blazer ($44.80) is perfect when paired with a black peplum top ($24.80) and a flouncy, tiered skirt ($26.80).

So fashionistas, get ready to add some more military-inspired pieces to your wardrobe. If you have a local army surplus shop in town, this may be the time to see what’s available.
